About Kelton Nursery

Liverpool's best kept secret.

What Makes Kelton Different?

You wouldn't know it from an initial visit but Kelton is unique for being the only parent-governed, parent-funded nursery in the Merseyside area. We are a non profit-making organisation and a registered charity. That means that while we have a skilled professional management team like any other nursery, there's no-one siphoning off the profits. Every penny generated by your fees is spent on caring for your children.

We are motivated by providing quality care not profits.

The Philosophy

We can sum it up in one word: quality. Our children are cared for by fully qualified and experienced Childcare Practitioners; we don't employ trainees and we don't use volunteers. We strive to retain our staff and it shows in our record: fourteen of our current team have over ten years service with us. That doesn't mean people come here to coast: some are encouraged to balance their duties with Higher Education courses, several of them have Advanced Childcare Practitioners Training acquired during their time at Kelton, all have comprehensive Accredited Food Safety and First Aid Training.

We cater for children between 6 weeks and 5 years and new arrivals to the nursery are divided by age and cared for in separate rooms. This means activities and equipment are always age-appropriate, with rooms following their own timetable and curriculum. Within their group each child is assigned a keyworker who is made particularly responsible for their progress, spending quality time with them each day, assessing them and planning to meet their individual needs.

Facilities

Our nursery is a large Victorian house on four floors with a coach house. Because your child's safety and well-being is paramount the nursery entrances are monitored by CCTV and entry is via a keypad. For added security, children are signed in and out each day.

For many parents Kelton's greatest asset is the garden. At a third of an acre, fully enclosed on all sides and with a combination of grass, concreted areas and a large fixed sand pit the garden offers opportunities for the children to play independently or be involved in more structured activities. So in a session about the weather, children might be taken out to fly kites, or in a project about food they might grow their own salads in the vegetable patch.

After-school children are fully catered for with an extensive supply of sports equipment, bikes and inflatables with space for ball and team games. There are also quiet areas, such as the sensory garden to relax and chat in. The nursery also boasts an indoor soft play room which is accessible by all age groups.

The Committee

The committee is a team of dedicated parents who meet monthly to support and direct the work done by the Nursery Manager. They come from a wide variety of professional and social backgrounds and have an input on everything from ordering new play equipment to balancing the budget. The committee is elected annually and actively welcomes approaches from new parents with skills, knowledge or enthusiasm to offer.

The committee is elected annually at the nursery's AGM by parents of the children. The committee can be contacted via Email: committee@keltonnursery.co.uk
